After talking to my family and being reminded of how I was a bad child (hellion) it seemed appropriate to rewatch a favorite of mine about bad children and needing heels!!
i just truly enjoy a john waters depiction of being fat. however, i think my enjoyment for shock value is reserved just for john waters. i forgot how many penises and bushes there are in this.
i wish i was better with words, better at saying how much this movie means to me despite all of its flaws and things that make me uncomfortable. i think certain aspects of my life make me uncomfortable, and this movie highlights the weird and uncomfortable of being an unconventional woman. i may not be as wild as Dawn, but i know what it means to be used when just looking for something to showcase all of your abilities as a person. The satirical nature Waters’ uses to portray child abuse, rape, and domestic violence is something i usually can never stomach but he does it so well i truly get it enough to watch and enjoy, and also laugh! I can’t speak on it historically or highlight his influences at all, i’m sure that’s a whole thing that makes this movie even better but i can’t read.
I don’t see many people talking about the fat portrayal in this movie, and it’s really important to me. they’re throwing around fat insults left and right, but all these fat women are too beautiful for it to even have any impact. how can john portray fat phobia in this way? i love it. just some really good satire on fat bodies that actually is satirical and makes a point instead of some butt of a joke. the uglier and filthier you are, the beautifuler you are. and people want to take advantage of that. just some female troubles!
Also, i love the fashion so much!! fat people can slay!!!
